The pending federal order (the process, in the DEA explainer) can publish on any day. This post is the buyer-side scenario planning, written in advance so the day it happens, the answer is not a blog post written in a hurry.
Scenario 1: The order issues and covers the products we sell
Effect is immediate upon publication. Manufacturing, distribution and possession of above-threshold 7-OH products would carry Schedule I controls and federal sanctions. For this store: new orders for affected products would stop, because shipping them would place us on the wrong side of the federal line — and no legitimate store should continue. For a buyer with a pack in hand: possession rules are the law’s, and the practical step is the same as for any regulated-product question — know the current rules for your jurisdiction (the compliance page will be updated on the same day) and seek specific advice if your situation is not the ordinary one.
Scenario 2: Orders already placed when the order issues
Orders placed before publication and not yet shipped face a judgment call that the law makes for us: if shipment after publication would be unlawful, the order is canceled and refunded, not shipped. You would hear it by email, and the refund policy governs the money back. This is the part of the scenario that is not dramatic — it is a refund with an explanation, and it is handled exactly like any other order failure.
Scenario 3: The order issues with a narrower scope than the current proposal
The proposed order targets 7-OH above a concentration threshold. If the final scope is narrower or differently drawn, some products remain in a different legal position than others. That granularity is exactly why the compliance page is updated per product, not per headline, and why the blog post that ships on publication day will include the per-product position table rather than a single “everything stopped” line.
What does not depend on the scenario
Three things hold in every version of this story. One: the substance’s risk profile is unchanged by any order — the responsible use guide, the no-mixing rule and the emergency resources are true in every scenario. Two: state law continues to apply on top of federal law, so the state picture (the overview) remains part of the calculation. Three: the Federal Register is the source of record, and the compliance page mirrors it — the rumor cycle is where bad decisions get made on days like this.
That is the whole of it. When the order publishes, the blog gets the per-product table and the compliance page gets the current law. Until then, the current rules are the current rules.
